Our History

The History of Cochrane Lake Gas Co-Op

Cochrane Lake Gas Co-op Ltd. was incorporated in 1972 when 10 founding directors had the desire to bring natural gas to the rural community at a reasonable cost.  By forming a co-operative association, the cost is shared by all of the members and likewise benefits all members.

Cochrane Lake Gas Co-op’s franchise area spans roughly 744 square miles – North from Ghost Lake, up through Waiparous to the Burnt Timber, Water Valley and Fallen Timber areas, and east from the Rocky Mountain Forest Reserve boundary to the Bethel area west of Carstairs, south through the Madden, Lochend and Bearspaw areas, down to the northern side of Cochrane’s town limits.

Cochrane Lake Gas Co-op Ltd. serves approximately 2,700 customers within our franchise area.
